Steve's Blog

I try to use this blog to record something about my life everyday.

My Photo
Name: Steve Brown
Location: Little Rock, Arkansas, United States

On December 31, 2007 I left my job with Sprint/Embarq where I worked as a Software Engineer for 15 years at the Sprint Campus in Kansas City. In January 2008 Mary and I started Steve Brown Ministries and started traveling the United States broadcasting "Live Video" of Revivals, Bible Conferences, Mission Conferences, and other Special Services. Mary and I enjoy serving the Lord Jesus Christ and traveling to churches as we minister through SteveBrownMinistries.com. We are very pleased that our ministry is endorsed and we are sent out of our home church at Heritage Baptist Temple in Little Rock, Arkansas.

Shipped First Order and Received Another One

Mary shipped our first DVD order today and this afternoon we received another order from our website for a complete set of DVD's of the Ladies conference.

Lee and I worked at the church most of the day installing our new overhead projector in the new church. We still have not hung the projector but we are very close to being ready to hang it.

New Shopping Cart Is Actually Working

Our new shopping cart is actually working. We took our first order this afternoon for a complete set of DVD's from the Ladies Conference in Hot Springs. I am thrilled to have it working. I have wanted to get this up and working for many months.

Our Last Day In Hot Springs, Arkansas

With the conclusion of the Ladies Conference last night we had to pack up today head to Little Rock. It took us nearly 6 hours to pack and load. I am so give out tonight.

In spite of being so tired tonight I tackled installing a shopping cart on our SteveBrownMinistries.com website. Several people in Hot Springs ask if they could buy the DVD's later. I worked hard tonight to make it happen. It seems to work okay from my tests.

A Mad Rush on Our Video Table

The first session of the Ladies Conference started this morning at 9:00 a.m. After the last session tonight about 9:30 p.m. there was a hugh rush on our video table. We sold a lot of DVD's tonight. When we got to the motel tonight we were wiped out.

Ladies Conference at Gospel Light Hot Springs

The 2008 Ladies Conference started at 1:00 p.m. this afternoon at Gospel Light Baptist Church in Hot Springs, Arkansas. We broadcasted every session this afternoon and up into the night. We put it all on two DVD's and offered them to the ladies as they were leaving the church. All the speakers were outstanding.

Our 43rd Wedding Anniversary

I spent the day unloading and hooking up our video equipment at the Gospel Light Baptist Church in Hot Springs, Arkansas. About 5:30 this evening Mary ask if I could go eat supper. I still lacked hooking up and testing a lot of equipment so she went and got us an Arby's sandwich. We sat in the balcony of Gospel Light Baptist Church and celebrated our 43rd wedding anniversary while eating an Arby's and putting the finishing touches to our video setup. When church started at 7:00 p.m. I was still hooking up stuff but things went well and we were able to broadcast the service and make a great DVD.

A Day of Packing The KIA

I spent most of my day trying to get all our video equipment into the van. I am trying hard to cut down on the amount of stuff that I take to an event. I think I did better this time I seem to have more room in the van.

Working On The New Stage

Today it was back to working on our new church building. Lee picked me up this morning and we hopefully finished pulling in all the cables under our new stage. I had hoped to use my gopher pole for the rest of the cables but we got hung up a couple times and I had to crawl under the stage in some very tight quarters.

Eureka Springs, Arkansas

Scott and Lacey decided to return to Little Rock via Eureka Springs this afternoon. Mary and I sat in Basin Park and listened to the locals sing folk music while Scott and Lacey toured the shops.

I was reminded of the time about 35 plus years ago when I worked here as a Lineman with Southwestern Bell pulling cable up and down these hills.

We really enjoyed our time in Eureka Springs.

Silver Dollar City

We spent most of the day at Silver Dollar City. About 4:00 p.m. they started closing the rides because of bad weather moving in. We decided it was time to leave. We got out before the rain started. The weather was pretty cool all day and we had a great time.

Branson Bound

This evening, Mary, Scott and Lacey decided that I needed to get away so they took me to Branson, Missouri for a little R & R. We arrived in Branson about 10:00 p.m. and stayed in the Lake View Inn in West Branson. It was a nice evening of just chatting and riding.

Editing Videos

I spent a big part of my day today editing videos from our trip to Gulfport, Mississippi last week. I am trying to catch up on putting out a low quality video of the Deep South Youth Conference on my SteveBrownMinistries.com website. I have spent many hours since last Friday putting together a video of our trip to Ship Island. I took about 2 hours of video and edited it down to about 30 minutes. The DVD version is ready.

Gopher Pole Beats Crawling

After much crawling around under our new stage I remembered my Gopher Pole. It is an extendable pole that extends up to 22 feet. I used it to pull in a lot of wires under our new stage today. It sure beats crawling.

Doctors Appointment

A midday doctors appointment messed up my day of working at the church. I did not want to get dirty and sweating before my 12:30 p.m. doctors appointment so I did not go to church this morning. I worked a while this afternoon and went to the Wednesday night church service kind of dirty.

Very Tight Crawling

I crawled all over underneath our new stage in our new church building today. I pulled muscles that did not need pulling. I am very sore tonight.

Working On New Church Building

The carpenters have finished ruffing in the stage in our new church building while we were away to Gulfport. I met Lee at church today to start wiring the new stage for microphones and monitor speakers. We cut a lot of holes for floor mounted mic connections and pulled in a few wires.

Great To Be Home

We have been gone from home for over two weeks on our trip to Gulfport, Mississippi. Today it was great to be back in our home church. It was so good to hear Mary back in the choir.

Packing and Trip To Little Rock

This morning Mary and I slept in for some much needed rest. We got to church this morning after 10:00 a.m. to start packing for the trip home. We did not get away from Gulfport until about 3:00 p.m. and we arrived home a little before 11:00 p.m.

This has been a very tiring trip, but one with some most cherished memories. I wish my body could keep up with these young people.

Ship Island

We got back to the motel and to bed about 1:30 a.m. this morning.

We had to be back to church this morning at 6:15 a.m. to catch our ride to the boats that would take us to Ship Island. Needless to say we are worn out before we start this day.

My brother, David, and I both took one our good video cameras to film the trip to Ship Island. They reserved 2 large yachts to take all the young people to the island. We had about 150 people on each boat. It took about an hour of cruising across the Gulf to reach the island. It was a very enjoyable trip. We shot lots of video. The 300 plus kids had a blast.

The beaches on the island were wonderful and the water was surprisingly clean. The kids played and swam in the water for hours.

We were back in church for two more fabulous sessions of singing and preaching tonight.

We sold a ton of DVD's tonight. We might break even on this trip. The cost of gasoline is taking it's toll on our expenses.

I feel like I could sleep forever.

Burning The Midnight Oil

Last night after church I stayed to help get computers, projectors and sound hooked up for a very special presentation about how music affects our lives. We got to bed about 1:30 a.m. this morning.

We were at church this morning at 8:00 a.m. getting ready for the first session at 9:00 a.m. I think it was going on 11:00 p.m. tonight when things came to a close. The singing and preaching was just been temendous all day long. I burned 3 DVD's to cover all the sessions today. One this morning. One this afternoon and another DVD for tonight. I don't know how many yet but we sold a lot of DVD's tonight.

Deep South Youth Conference

Tonight I believe I was priviledged to record on video the best preaching to young people in the world. We heard 4 messages back to back starting at 7:00 p.m.

Somebody Forgot The Memo By Dr. Stephen Barnes
Involved In The Battle, Taste The Victory By Dr. Reno Likins
Deceived By Dr. Bob Hooker
Settle The Love Question By Dr. Mike Ray

The music was top notch and the preacher were a real joy. I am so glad they invited Mary and I to this conference.

Setting Up At Faith Baptist Church In Gulfport

My brother David arrived last night and was a great help in setting up for the "Deep South Youth Conference" at Faith Baptist Church in Gulfport, Mississippi today. David brought 2 of his good video cameras. I normally work with three cameras. This is the first event where I will be controlling 5 camera. This may be more than my brain can handle. We stayed for a live rehersal of the young people this evening. It seems like this is really going to be a great conference. They have young people coming from all over the place for the next three days.

Packing Up

Mary and I spent most of the day packing and loading our equipment into our van. It took us about 6 hours to complete the task. I guess we are moving kind of slow in this Gulport heat. The humidity is really high down here.

Our Last Day With Temple Baptist Church

Since our next meeting does not start until Wednesday night we stayed over with the folks at Temple Baptist Church in Gulfport, Mississippi through today. Since our equipment was already setup we continued to broadcast the Sunday services and made them a DVD of the entire day. The folks here have been really good to us and we have throughtly enjoyed out time with them.

Beautiful Pensacola Beach

Since we have another day off we decided to travel down the gulf coast East of Biloxi this afternoon. The farther we went the pretter it got. The devastation from Katrina was less and less. The water was pretty and clean. And by the time we got to Pensacola Beach it was absolutly beautiful. The beaches were snow white sand and the waves were 3 to 4 feet high. We were doing well until we got about half way accross the Pensacola Beach island and then the road was closed for some reason. We had to turn around and head for our motel back in Biloxi, Mississippi.

Dead Tired

We have enjoyed a wonderful week with Temple Baptist Church but we are worn out from it all. We had a day off today so we slept in this morning.

This afternoon we took a drive on the gulf coast traveling west from Biloxi, Mississippi for about a 100 miles. Mostly all we saw a a lot of devastation from Katrina. It's been a couple years and they are not building back very much. We saw a lot of beautiful beaches but not very many people. The roads are all still under construction.

Last Night Of The 2008 Jubilee

Things went well on our last night of the 2008 Jubilee with Temple Baptist Church in Gulfport, Mississippi. All our systems worked flawlessly for a change.

Soulwinning with Bruce Frye

God gave me the great privilege of going soul winning with Bro. Bruce Frye this evening. He use to play his guitar with folks like Hank Williams Jr. He was on the Matlock TV show. Ten years ago he got saved and quit the music business and surrendered to preach. He now travels the world singing for Jesus and preaching the Word of God. I thoroughly enjoyed my time with him this evening knocking doors here in Gulfport, Mississippi.

A Long Day of Preaching

Preaching started early this morning at 9:00 a.m. with Dr. Dan Carr. It was a fantastic message entitled "The Law of Decrease". If you missed it you can watch it on SteveBrownMinistries.com. I have an archive copy listed there.

Can Not Burn A CD From A DVD

I was running low on DVD-R's so we went to Sam's on the way to church this evening. I picked up a case of CD-R's by mistake. At the close of services I finalized the master DVD and ran to the duplicators to make 60 DVD's before the crowd came out. I pushed the "Copy" button and about half of the drawers opened up and the error said I could not copy DVD to CD. I panicked. All I could do was start printing labels on some more DVD's. Thank the Lord the crowd came out slowly tonight and I was able to keep up giving away the DVD's. Seems like every night some little something goes astray at the last minute and my stress level goes sky high. I'm sure the Lord is trying to teach me something in all this. Well, Praise the Lord, I still enjoy what we are doing for Him.

A Great Day At Temple Baptist Church

We had a wonderful day with the folks at Temple Baptist Church. The video broadcast went well on http://SteveBrownMinistries.com and the audio on http://BibleBelieversRadio.com until the evening service.

During the evening service someone's chair got on top of my camera #1 cable and crushed it. The wires shorted out and caused my whole video system to shutdown. It took me a few minutes to analyze the situtation and get the other two cameras back on the air. I am very sorry to say but there is a black out on the video for 2-3 minutes on the DVD and on the broadcast while I was trying to get the system fixed.
