Steve's Blog

I try to use this blog to record something about my life everyday.

My Photo
Name: Steve Brown
Location: Little Rock, Arkansas, United States

On December 31, 2007 I left my job with Sprint/Embarq where I worked as a Software Engineer for 15 years at the Sprint Campus in Kansas City. In January 2008 Mary and I started Steve Brown Ministries and started traveling the United States broadcasting "Live Video" of Revivals, Bible Conferences, Mission Conferences, and other Special Services. Mary and I enjoy serving the Lord Jesus Christ and traveling to churches as we minister through SteveBrownMinistries.com. We are very pleased that our ministry is endorsed and we are sent out of our home church at Heritage Baptist Temple in Little Rock, Arkansas.

It Was 103 In Kansas City Today

Another hot day in Kansas City. It got up to 103 at the airport. Chris and I went for our 3 mile noon walk but I think I slowed him down a little. We did enjoy a very nice breeze.

Rob and Rachael brought me a bunch of sweet corn straight from Iowa. I ate 3 ears immediately. I just shucked it and ate it. No cooking. Fantastic.

The Krispy Kreme Cache

Scott and I were able to get a few caches before lunch today. This is a really nice paint job on an ammo can.

This afternoon I traveled back to Kansas City. I knew I was getting good gas mileage when the gas gauge showed full when I had traveled over a hundred miles. This tank turned out to be the best gas mileage yet on my Honda Fit. I got 44.8 MPG.

Fixed Our John Deere

The idler pulley went out on our John Deere back in June. After three tries to get a new belt we finally got the right one. This afternoon it was my job to put it all back together. It looks like I did good. I mowed for awhile and it is running fine.

Honda Fit Gas Usage Update - 40 MPG

I can't believe it. This car was only rated at 37 MPG on the highway. This afternoon I got 40.4 MPG traveling from Kansas City to Little Rock.

No Walking - No Caching

It was raining at lunch time and when I got off work. I guess I gained another pound or three today. I just sat the entire day. I did change the water in the fish tank tonight. I'm sure the fish are happy now.

Another Failed Atempt At Emporia Odessey

Brian and I drove down to Emporia, Kansas this evening to complete the Emporia Odessey cache that we started last weekend. We made it to the final stage and could not find the cache. We thought we did everything just right. We rechecked all our work and could not find anything wrong. We had to come back home defeated again.

Passed PTOC Supplies To Dick Neuburger

This evening I packed up all the Possum Trot Orienteering supplies in the little Honda and took them over to Dick Neuburgers house. I guess I'm out of the registrar business.

Here's the latest gasoline history for my Honda Fit:

Caching Until Bedtime

I went caching this evening after work. I saw a mountain lion or something BIG from the cat family near Belton, Missouri. I nearly hit a BIG deer somewhere near Braymer, Missouri. I located my last cache of 5 about 10:00 p.m. I caught this sunset somewhere north of Richmond, Missouri.  Posted by Picasa

Failed To Find The Cache In Emporia

We went as far as we could with the cache in Emporia, Kansas. I decided about 10:00 a.m. to give up and go caching elsewhere. I grabbed a couple east of Nevada, Missouri and one over at Warsaw and a few more in Kansas City before calling it a day.

Overnight Caching In Emporia, Kansas

I headed to Emporia, Kansas this evening to grab a cache in my 100 mile circle. It turned out to be the most difficult puzzle cache I'ver ever attempted. I enlisted Brian's help. He helped me until late evening and we had to quit. He sent an email to the cache owner for help. The cache owner never responded. I decided to spend the night in Emporia and try again in the morning.

Dinner At The Yonke's And A Cache

What could be better than dinner at the Yonke's and a cache after dinner. Carlin fixed beer butt chicken and a tenderloin on the grill. I really enjoyed the meal and the company with Terry and Jimmy. We went after the new WIGWAG cache after dinner. This was a very nice piece of history. Click here for more WIGWAG history.

104 In The Shade

I think our high temp today was 104 degrees. Chris and I went on our three mile walk today at noon. I'm not sure if it's heat related or not but I have not felt too good all afternoon. I felt that we pushed pretty hard on our walk today. I went home and sat by the air conditioner this evening.

Swimming

It was too hot to do anything but sit by the air conditioner or jump in the water, so I went swimming. It was so hot there was no one at the pool so I had it to myself. I really enjoy our 9 foot deep pool.

No Caching Today

I took my laptop and GPSr to work today thinking I would go caching this evening. I got to work a little late so I had to work a little late. When I did get off work it was so hot I thought it might not be much fun to cache in this heat so I went home and sat by the air conditioner.

Another New Laptop Table For My Honda

This must be the third laptop table I have built in the past month. One for our KIA, another for Scott's Suburban, and this one for my Honda. After building it I just had to go out and try it out. It worked great. I found 11 caches this afternoon using it. Late this evening I met friends and finished the day caching.

My New Apartment - Three Fountains

Today the lady at Three Fountains called us with a better deal on a studio apartment. We took her up on the deal and got our deposit back on Skyler Ridge.

My New Apartment - Skyler Ridge

This evening we're still searching for an apartment. We almost signed the lease for Pebble Brook but we kept searching and found Skyler Ridge close to the Sprint Campus. Since I'll be working for up to the two years at the Sprint Campus we went ahead and signed the lease for Skyler Ridge. We did a test run from the apartment to parking in garage "C" and I parked in just over 4 minutes. That will be nice.

Searching For An Apartment

Mary and I spent the evening searching for an apartment for me. We found one I really like at Pebble Brook off Metcalf. Since she's spending most of her time in Arkansas helping with grandkids we need something less expensive here in Kansas City for me.

Mary Brought My Laptop To Kansas City

I was in such a hurry yesterday to leave Little Rock and get home to Kansas City that I forgot my work laptop. When I got the work this morning I had to borrow a laptop while Mary spent the day driving to Kansas City to bring me my laptop.

We enjoyed a nice meal with Robby and Rachel at On The Border this evening.

A Day At Gettysburg & Hershey

We spent most of the day at Gettysburg today. There must be thousands of memorials in honor of the soldiers that died at Gettysburg. The Pennsalvania memorial is the largest memorial in the 25 squares miles where the battles were fought.

After leaving Gettysburg we went to Hershey, Pensalvania and visited Chocolate World at the Hershey factory.

We ended the day in Lancaster, Pennsalvania at the Quality Inn. We went there because they have an indoor pool. The kids wanted to go swimming but after we checked in we learned the pool closed at 9:00 p.m. It was 9:15 p.m. The motel cost $79.90 and we didn't have Wi-Fi. The dial-up is awlful.   Posted by Picasa

Our Visit To Washington D.C.

We had a great day today in Washington D.C. and saw a lot of things. We could easily have spend the rest of our vacation here and there would still be things we would like to see. After leaving Washington D.C. we made it to Frederich, Maryland and spent the night in the Sleep Inn for $87.47. We only traveled 137 miles today for a total of 1221 miles.
