Steve's Blog

I try to use this blog to record something about my life everyday.

My Photo
Name: Steve Brown
Location: Little Rock, Arkansas, United States

On December 31, 2007 I left my job with Sprint/Embarq where I worked as a Software Engineer for 15 years at the Sprint Campus in Kansas City. In January 2008 Mary and I started Steve Brown Ministries and started traveling the United States broadcasting "Live Video" of Revivals, Bible Conferences, Mission Conferences, and other Special Services. Mary and I enjoy serving the Lord Jesus Christ and traveling to churches as we minister through SteveBrownMinistries.com. We are very pleased that our ministry is endorsed and we are sent out of our home church at Heritage Baptist Temple in Little Rock, Arkansas.

No Trick or Treaters

Nobody found me tonight down here in my little cave. I spent the evening catching up on some preaching CD's and listening to Gospel Music.

Monitor Speakers

I finally got to turn on the Yamaha amplifier that I bought a couple weeks ago. I received a pair of very small monitor speakers this evening that can handle up to 300 watts. I plugged them into the Yamaha as the main speakers and they sound pretty good. I'm still waiting on the main speakers to show up.

Internet Church

My church came from the internet today from First Family Church. They stream their live services over the internet. It is very good quality and I really enjoyed the preaching. I'm not too much into this new music. I spent the afternoon finishing the coding on the new web pages.

Website Coding

I spent most of the day writing some perl code to go to a pop3 email site, retrieve an email, parse the contents and make a webpage from it for the Morning Meditations on our church website. I have been doing all this manually for some weeks and now it is automated.

Rejoice Radio Network

I discovered the Rejoice Radio Network this evening. I really enjoyed listening to it.

A little later in the evening I discovered AllQuartetsRadio.com Another great find. Lots of songs we listened to during the 60's and 70's.

Audacity

I spent a lot of my evening setting up a recording system using Audacity. It seems to be a great free tool for making live recordings or capturing any audio feed. I have been using Audacity to make CD's from Mary's old accompaniment tapes. I hope to use these sound tracks to make a CD of Mary singing the next time she comes to Kansas City.

Streaming Church

I felt almost like I attended church tonight. I listened to a live video stream from First Family Church in Overland Park tonight. It was a real eye opener about stem cell research. The video is archived on their website if you would like to view it.

Searching For Speakers

I spent a big part of the evening searching for speakers from eBay and craigslist. Seems like most everything I want weights 60-70 pounds. That's just more than I want to lug around.

Purchased A Yamaha Mixer/Amp

I found a Yamaha Mixer/Amp on the Kansas City CraigsList and purchased it this evening. Our family is hoping to start a monthly ministry at the nursing home where my dad is at. I still need speakers and a couple microphones.

Sunday School and Church

We went to the early service at Crystal Hill this morning. The preaching and teaching was just what I needed. I really am touched by God when I hear Bro. Larry preach and teach the Gospel.

As I was leaving to return to Kansas City I met Lee parking at the front door of the church. He could barely move. He looked like he was in great pain. I really admire him for keeping on going. I can not imagine that Job suffered any more than Lee does. I wept and prayed for him most of the return trip to Kansas City.

Big Halloween Party

We started the day at Lawson school where Mary and I went to school when we were kids. We were there with all the grandkids for their annual carnival. We had a great time. We all kept trying to win a cake at the cake-walk. Finally Preston won a big chocolate cake.

We spent the afternoon at Lee and Angela's helping them get ready for their Halloween party. It was a very nice party with lots of kids. We had a big bonfire and I ate too many hot dogs. We enjoyed the party.

It's Back To Arkansas Again

Mary and I have been together for about 6 weeks through the move to Arkansas and back to Kansas City for the Geocaching History tour this past Saturday. I'm going to hate to leave her in Little Rock when I have to leave Sunday to return to Kansas City.

We arrived at Lee and Angela's home about 5:15 p.m. and they put me to work mowing and getting ready for their Halloween Party tomorrow night. We did not get to our home until after 9:00 p.m. We were more than ready for the bed.

One Night With The King

We went to see the movie, "One Night With The King" this evening. It was the Bible story of Esther. It was very good and we enjoyed the movie.

Streaming Video From First Family Church

We watched a live service on the internet using streaming video from the First Family Church in Overland Park tonight. After the service I spent the rest of the evening trying to figure out how to stream live video from my Windows 2003 Web Server. I made good progress installing and configuring the "Windows Media Services" software.

Hard Day At Work

I really kept my nose to the grindstone today at work. I'm working on some new web pages for the Technician Trigger project. This project will allow the field technicians to release service orders for activation.

Copying Cassette Tapes to CD

I spent most of the evening copying Mary's accompaniment tapes to wave files using Audacity and then burning them to CD using Nero.

No Church Today

We planned to go to church today but we slept right through it. We were so tired from the event yesterday. I guess we needed the extra sleep.

Kansas City History Tour

Today was the big day for the Kansas City History Tour. We had a lot of folks show up for the event. I spent most of the afternoon stirring this pot of Gumbo.

Three Hours Sleep

I was up until after 2:00 a.m. with the SODS server upgrade. We had problems and I was back up about 5:30 a.m. I never got back to bed.

We spent the afternoon putting together the book for the History Tour tomorrow.

Another Move On The Sprint Campus

Today I reported to work in my 5th location on the Sprint Campus. As best as I can remember I am now working in my 7th location in the past couple years. Maybe it's been 3 years. It seems impossible to get settled into a location at work any more.

Big Day of Unpacking

Lee, Angela, Scott, Bradley, Ashley, Preston, and Drew all came up this morning and spent the day helping us try to get our house in order. We finally got our bed set up from the move. It sure will be great to sleep in our bed tonight. We also got our refrigerator moved in and hooked up. What a relief when it made it's first ice cubes after a couple hours of running.

We were all very tired when the day was over. We went to King Buffet for dinner. It was great.

Night Caching With Preston and Drew

This afternoon it was time to mow the grass again. That old Johnson grass sure is tough this time of year. I worked on the church website a little this evening and then we took Preston and Drew out to eat. When it was good and dark we headed for Burns Park. I wanted to see if Preston and Drew could find our night cache and give me a change to make sure it was still okay. They found it with no problem and had a great time in the woods.

New Merlin S720 Data Card Fixed All My Problems

I think I formatted the hard drive and reloaded my Thinkpad R50p 5 times during the course of this past month trying to get my Merlin s720 Data Card working on my Thinkpad. I received a new card today from Sprint and it worked the first time I tried it. I am so glad to put this problem to rest.

Nice Evening At Church

Lee and the kids came up for dinner. Mary got a new Sunbeam bread machine. She tried it out on us this evening and we all loved it. After dinner we went to church and really enjoyed the service.

Errected Lee's New Yagi Antenna

This evening we went up to Lee and Angela's for dinner. I spent most of the evening errecting Lee's new 1900mhz antenna. I am jealous. Lee gets a -73dB signal. I only get -95dB. Dinner was great and we enjoyed the evening.

New Church Home - Crystal Hill Baptist

This morning we went to church with Lee and Angela at Crystal Hill. Every time I have been here it seems that the Spirit of the Lord really moves in my heart. After spending an hour with the pastor this afternoon we decided to join the church. Tonight the church graciously voted to accept us as members. We really enjoyed the preaching and teaching today.
